Technical Writer

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Technical Writer to join our IT department. This position creates and revises technical documents such as manuals, reports, brochures, or articles. This position will work with subject matter experts in various MainePERS departments and 3rd party vendors to gather the necessary information and write content that is understandable to a non-specialist. Work is performed under limited supervision.

This position is anticipated to be a 4-year limited duration position.

This position’s pay includes a 5% premium.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field and 3 years of related experience OR equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be considered.
• Proficient in MS Office suite
• Must be proficient in Excel at the intermediate level
• Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to write technical documentation clearly and effectively. Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in software development
• Professional certification (ex: Society for Technical Communication)
• Experience in using XML tools to create documentation
