Job Description

The University of Maine Center on Aging, Senior Companion Program is funded in part through a grant from AmeriCorps Seniors, (the Corporation for National Community Service). Senior Companions are stipended volunteers who support homebound individuals with education and companionship, helping them remain in their homes. Volunteer stations are non-profit, community-based, human service agencies serving elders. SCP staff recruit volunteer stations, to support the program and assign Senior Companions to homebound seniors. The SCP Director works in partnership with Center on Aging faculty, professionals, program coordinators and Advisory Council and volunteer stations in support of the goals and within the structure of the SCP. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $45,000 to $55,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications : Required :

  • Bachelor's degree in human development or related field or CVA credentialing.

Preferred :

  • Master's degree in social and behavioral sciences or related field.
  • Knowledge of Federal Regulations of AmeriCorps Seniors Programs.
  • Demonstrated grant-writing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and group process skills.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be self-motivated, self-directed and able to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Successful experience in working collaboratively with volunteer groups, nonprofit agencies and organizations.
  • Excellent computer skills (MSExcel, MSWord, PowerPoint, and database programs).
  • Demonstrated effective supervisory experience.
  • Ability to travel statewide and annually out of state, usually requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated fundraising, development and program promotion experience.
