What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver position at Maine School Administrative District No 75?
HOURS: 31-40 Hours per week/36 Weeks per year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Van Driver is responsible for transporting all passengers, including special education Students, over scheduled routes. The Van Driver will ensure efficient, safe transport and will load/unload from the van.
- Drives a district van safely in accordance with time schedules; transporting Students to and from a variety of school sites.
- Follow all MSAD No. 75 District and Transportation Department’s rules, processes and policies including but not limited to; student discipline procedures and daily reporting requirements.
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Establish and maintain proper conduct and discipline on the van at all times.
- Conduct established required safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily (I.E. brake systems, gauges, emergency exits, fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.)
- Load and unload students and passengers only at authorized stops.
- Notify the appropriate authorities in cases of mechanical failures, delays in scheduled route or accidents.
- Maintain accurate pick up/drop off schedules (run sheets). Ensure updates are timely with one copy on board the van for use if by substitute drivers.
- Maintain cleanliness of van.
- Remove accumulated snow and ice when needed, prior to scheduled run, and clean all windows of road grime as required so to ensure proper visibility.
- Attend meetings, programs and in-service training as assigned.
- Interact with residents, members of the public and colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.
- Physical ability to meet primary responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- A valid and appropriate State of Maine Driver’s License.
- A clean driving record with the State of Maine Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) Authorization, or ability to obtain
- Physical ability to meet primary responsibilities.
- Ability to work well with a team.
