Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team in providing high-quality medical care for individuals receiving inpatient treatment for substance use disorders. This PRN role requires flexibility to work 16-20 hours per month, with the potential to cover additional shifts as needed. The PA will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing both the acute and chronic medical needs of patients, with a particular focus on substance use disorders.
Responsibilities Include:
- Medical Evaluation & Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, diagnosing substance use disorders and co-occurring medical conditions.
- Treatment & Management: Develop and implement treatment plans for both substance use disorders and chronic/acute medical conditions (e.g., detoxification, withdrawal management, chronic health issues).
- Collaborative Care: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, therapists, nurses, and case managers to provide holistic care for patients.
- Patient Education: Provide patients with information on medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies, including relapse prevention and medication management.
- Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor medications as needed for detoxification, withdrawal management, and mental health support, ensuring appropriate dosages and safety.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.
- Emergency Response: Address and manage any acute medical crises, including medical emergencies related to substance use.
- Other: Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Active Physician Assistant license in the state of Virginia.
- Current ACLS/BLS certification (or ability to obtain prior to start).
EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in addiction medicine, substance use treatment, or inpatient care preferred, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong clinical skills, including the ability to diagnose and treat substance use disorders.
- Proficiency in managing both acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and team collaboration.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic inpatient setting.
- Must have a compassionate, patient-centered approach to care and a commitment to treating substance use disorder with dignity and respect.
