Maintenance Worker

MAINTENANCE WORKER 

(2 Positions) 

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Successful completion of criminal history background check.
2. Proof of US citizenship.
3. High School Diploma or equivalent.
4. Three (3) years of multi-trade experience in facilities maintenance or construction.
5. Skill in the operation of power tools and equipment to make necessary repairs.
6. Ability to read, write and speak English.
7. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
8. Must be physically able to efficiently perform duties of the position.  Any physical disability which would cause the candidate to be a hazard to themselves or to others is considered disqualifying.
9. Ability to hear conversational voice, with or without hearing aid.
10. Good vision, with or without glasses.
11. Ability to follow written or oral directions.

REPORTS TO:         
Facilities Supervisor

JOB GOAL:

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work to maintain the physical structure and associated equipment of the Gloucester Township Board of Education buildings and grounds and provide a safe, secure, clean, attractive place in which students may learn, play and develop.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Wears clean and appropriate uniform.
2. Confers with and keeps the Facilities Supervisor informed of matters relating to the overall health, safety and operating condition of district buildings and grounds.
3. Installs, repairs and maintains, plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds, electrical, heating, air conditioning and the physical structure of district buildings in accordance with blueprints, manuals, building codes and safety regulations.
4. Performs grounds work which includes, but is not limited to, snow removal; general lawn work; outside maintenance; flower beds; trimming of trees and shrubs; and maintenance of district athletic fields.
5. Ability to proficiently use hand tools and power tools safely to make necessary repairs.
6. Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures at all times; uses and wears safety and/or protective equipment as appropriate.
7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials and facilities.
8. Expected to work hours outside of regular shift schedule, which includes responding to weather and other emergencies after hours.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor in accordance with Gloucester Township policies and practices.

ABILITY

1. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisors, administrators, and school community members.
2. Must be skilled in the performance of one or more trades.
3. To perform heavy physical labor, which includes lifting, pulling, pushing, and working off ladders.
4. To work without direct supervision, maintain schedules, set priorities, and organize tasks.
5. To carry out complex and/or multiple tasks.
6. To prepare accurate reports, maintain records, etc.
7. To use hand and power tools to accomplish repairs, installation and adjustments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.  There is bending at the waist, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, kneeling, crawling and climbing ladders.  Dexterity needed of hands and fingers to operate power tools and to make adjustment on equipment.
2. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 pound, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions in all seasons.
2. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places.
3. Occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, in addition to toxic or caustic chemicals.
4. Risk of electrical shock.

COMPENSATION:      
As negotiated with the GTSPA

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:          
12 months

VACATION:                 
In accordance with GTSPA contract.

EVALUATION:            
Performance of this job will be evaluated twice a year in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
