What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic II/Custodian Coordinator position at Maintenance?
Summary
To perform a variety of work of general maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment to maintain a safe environment that is conducive to learning while providing accountability for division-wide custodial operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works cooperatively with building and maintenance personnel on proper operation of systems and equipment.
- Performs periodic walk-through of all work areas in each building, and performs a minimum of quarterly inspections for all custodians” work areas to complete custodial inspection reports.
- Assists in the development of the custodial work schedule in cooperation with the principal and the Supervisor of Maintenance.
- Maintains adequate inventory of custodial supplies and materials for the school division, including ordering from approved vendors
- Reports any custodial machinery malfunctions to the Supervisor of Maintenance
- Delivers supplies and materials from inventory to all district sites
- Creates staff development plans and trains custodial staff on the procedures and changes in equipment and technical data to ensure a quality operation
- Monitors working conditions with regard to OSHA-related requirements of the custodial staff, including up-to-date, accurate maintenance of Safety Data Sheet records
- Inspects the buildings, grounds and other facilities of the district and confers with building principals as directed by the Supervisor of Maintenance
- Performs off-hour inspections as needed
- Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at various facilities in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazier, masonry, and painting tasks
- Repairs and treats structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets
- Reports mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action
- Moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment at various facilities
- Identifies and reports projects requiring the services of a higher skilled crafts person
- Assists in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors as directed
- Completes service requests and updates work logs for specific site requirements
- Activates and deactivates building alarms as part of site support team
- Maintains safe, clean, and orderly work site
- Assists with snow removal operations
- Responds to District emergency calls as determined by the Supervisor of Maintenance
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance
Professional Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED certificate
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License
- Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including related work experience in one or more of the building trades
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, floor care, cleaning, and snow removal equipment

10) Maintain work logs and service requests
11) Establish and maintain professional, cooperative, and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments
12) Perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions
13) Work independently and able to adjust work hours and/or work days to meet the needs of the Division
