Spotsylvania County Public Schools is actively seeking a maintenance industry profressional to leverage their experience, knowledge and leadership to manage a skilled workforce of more than 70 employees engaged in facilities and grounds maintenance of a large and growing K-12 public school division. Serving as the Supervisor of Maintenance, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance department including personnel and project management, department goals and objectives, as well as division planning and strategy. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilizes the web-based maintenance direct to screen and download work orders daily; distributes the work orders to respective departments for carrying out by maintenance employees
  • Monitors maintenance direct to follow-up on incomplete or outstanding work orders that appear delinquent
  • Encourages safe working habits by implementing a safety program for maintenance workers and requires their participation
  • Monitors, and if needed, repairs or replaces tools, vehicles or equipment in disrepair using the school division’s established procurement policies
  • Assists division’s purchasing department with developing specifications for the procurement of the items as needed
  • Performs twice yearly inspections of school buildings and office facilities for safety issues, unreported repairs work and or capital maintenance needs.
  • Makes available professional training for maintenance workers for the proper usage of materials and equipment
  • Provides opportunities for continued professional development and encourage participation
  • Participates in recruitment efforts, including the interviewing, offering and onboarding of new personnel
  • Allocates personnel and material resources to maintain buildings and grounds division-wide in an efficient and resourceful manner
  • Oversees all maintenance department personnel, and provides technical advice and assistance when necessary to the various department heads and maintenance workers as needed
  • Participates in professional development as necessary to stay abreast of the latest technology in the related field
  • Assists school administration with monitoring weather related road conditions in winter months and makes recommendations to the superintendent regarding school closures
  • Adjusts and Implements the Maintenance Department Winter Weather Preparedness Plan for snow removal with the maintenance staff

Education and Experience:

 

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Logistics, Engineering or related field -OR- equivalent experience in a multi-disciplined maintenance role managing large groups of workers in various trades
  • Two (2) years of direct, hands-on experience working in school construction management serving in a project lead capacity
  • Current (valid, non-expired) Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Class B endorsement

Preferred

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience within a school maintenance department
  • Currently possesses a Master’s License in one of the three trades (HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing)
  • Currently possesses an OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health card

Special Requirements:

  • The employee must pass a yearly physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program.
  • This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
