Maison Miru (www.maisonmiru.com), a young and growing independent jewelry brand, is looking for a Director of Merchandising and Sales Operations to architect our data-driven merchandising strategy and build a strong operations foundation for growth. This role spans both strategic analysis (to unlock insights about what to make next and how best to serve our customers) and the hands-on execution of initiatives that support the entire product lifecycle. Job Summary:
In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Founders, Marketing, Operations, and Creative Teams. Your primary objective will be to accelerate the growth of our eCommerce business through data-driven merchandising strategies and robust operational improvements. You will play a key role in developing customer segmentation strategies and designing merchandising approaches tailored to maximize customer lifetime value (LTV) across each segment. Your responsibilities will equally encompass driving merchandising strategy, performing detailed data analysis, optimizing operational processes, and ensuring our product merchandising and operational capabilities effectively support and target our core customers.
This position will have direct oversight of the Operations and Customer Care team, which will report directly to you. The day to day for this job can vary, so this is a great role for someone who likes to learn and grow. You’ll help us look for ways to iterate and continuously improve our merchandising and operational efforts to grow the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Driven Merchandising Strategy:
- Develop and execute merchandising business development strategies, seasonal plans, and processes across multiple product categories, ensuring cohesive assortments that drive incremental sales and profitability, while aligning DTC objectives with strategic revenue growth opportunities.
- Partner with design and ecommerce to develop customer insights, historical sales data, trends, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for product innovation and assortment planning.
- Build and maintain customer segment profiles based on behavior, purchase patterns, geographies, and demographics.
- Conduct sales data deep dives, sizing analyses, and inventory turn reviews to inform future product mix.
- Own merchandising metrics sell-through, margin, category performance to optimize and design our assortments.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to refine product development strategies on a predetermined cadence.
- Build comprehensive pricing and merchandising strategy to rightsize current assortment and build continuity for future assortment.
- Lead GTM strategy collaborating closely with Design, Operations, and Creative/Marketing teams to manage adherence to the time-and-action calendar, ensuring timely product deliveries, sales growth, effective expense management, and achievement of margin targets.
Build Operations Foundations for Scale:
- Develop comprehensive sales forecast and inventory management forecast
- Streamline operations for scale, developing scalable SOPs (standard operating procedures) for product launches, replenishment, returns, etc.
- Direct and oversee a team who collaborate with Warehouse and partners to manage shipping, packaging, quality control, and timely deliveries.
- Oversee factory partnerships for on-time production schedules, negotiating terms, and ensuring high product quality.
- Negotiate contracts, maintain SLAs, and proactively troubleshoot operational bottlenecks.
Drive Operational Innovation:
- Evaluate and implement AI-powered solutions (for forecasting, inventory planning, or automated customer communications).
- Explore ways to accelerate internal workflows—report generation, product feedback loops, data organization.
- Harness customer inquiries as feedback loops to refine product lines and proactively solve issues.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 7-9 years in merchandising, operations, or a combined role within eCommerce or consumer goods. Proven track record of data-driven decision-making to optimize product assortments and inventory.
- Leadership: Experience managing teams, mentoring direct reports, and driving cross-department initiatives.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to dig into large data sets, interpret findings, and communicate insights clearly. Experience with analytics tools (Excel/Google Sheets, BI platforms) and forecasting methods.
- Operational Expertise: Skilled at developing SOPs, scaling operational systems, and collaborating with external partners (e.g., factories, warehouses).
- Detail Oriented: Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and alignment with brand guidelines and commercial objectives.
- Tech & AI Savvy: Eagerness to explore and implement AI-driven solutions to streamline processes.
- Customer-Centric Mindset: Understanding of best-in-class customer care practices and how to turn customer feedback into product and operational improvements.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Strong collaboration skills; able to work with Creative, Marketing, and external vendors effectively.
