Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is seeking an experienced Interim Labor & Employment (L&E) Counsel.
Overview: We’re seeking an experienced Interim Labor & Employment (L&E) Counsel to provide dedicated support to our client’s HR colleagues in factories and distribution centers. This role involves offering advice and counsel on various employment-related issues, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and handling internal client interactions during normal business hours.
Company: Global food and beverage manufacturer.
Experience: 5 years of L&E counsel experience gained across law firms and in-house settings.
Location: Remote. Open to candidates in the eastern and the central US.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide legal advice and counsel to front-line HR managers on labor and employment matters.
- Address employment-related issues such as leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, and workers' compensation.
- Handle issues related to leave, workplace accommodations, investigations, and agency charges.
- Ensure consistent and dependable support during core business hours.
- Manage intake processes using legal project management platform.
- Assist with workplace investigations, safety concerns, and conduct-related matters.
- Provide guidance on hiring, firing, and other employment decisions.
- Offer support for agency charges, including those from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor, and federal and state Fair Employment Practices Agencies (FEPAs).
- Develop and deliver training sessions and create self-help tools for HR teams.
- Other legal duties as assigned including potentially advising on pre-litigation matters.
Qualifications Include:
- 5 years of experience in labor and employment law, gained in a law firm and further developed in-house.
- Ability to work independently and provide dedicated support during regular working hours to service the front-line HR managers who are their internal clients.
- Some prior experience supporting frontline HR managers in an industrial, manufacturing or comparable workforce setting is preferred.
- Basic understanding of labor laws is and regulations is preferred.
- Must be responsive with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Some experience with legal project management platforms like High-Q is preferred.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
Pay Rate: $100 - $107.50 per hour
