What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cut off Operator - Second Shift position at Major Metals Company?
Description:
- 2nd shift - 50 hour week- Mon.-Fri. 4 pm - 2:45 am- $1.50 shift differential for all hours worked.
- Responsible for wearing the proper mandatory safety gear in designated areas/situations and assure all machine guards are in place.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and OSHA guidelines.
- Acquire proper paperwork and verify measuring devices prior to start of shift.
- Responsible for the safe and correct operation of all the equipment in the Cutoff area including the Alpha Press, Accelerator/Controller and Turks head, rust preventative applicator and lubrication system for blade.
- Expected to continually monitor the physical appearance, length, straightness, weld flash, UV coverage and other aspects of visual quality including customer specifications as noted.
- Able to setup and change cutting dies, Turks head rolls and all other equipment in work area.
- Knows how to read tape measures and micrometers.
- Ensures that the correct cut length, designated by the work orders, is being run. Cut samples for UV and Mill operator as needed.
- Ensures that all plug gauges and mandrels are utilized when specified.
- Performs proper quality inspections of the finished material being produced.
- Keeps track of daily footage and scrap and records on the proper paperwork.
- Responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting and monitoring the conditions of the equipment being used and reports any problems or damages to supervision.
- Keeps a check on blades, oils, greases, ties, and other items used on a daily bases in the area, and notifies supervision when items need to be reordered.
- Responsible for the pullout, Turks head and cutoff section of the mill during changeovers.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Responsible for the quality of the tube.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with federal, state, and local standards.
