Well-established and growing law firm in Westchester County, New York, seeks an junior attorney admitted in New York (2-3 years of experience preferred) to become the newest member of our dynamic team and practice in the areas of elder law, estate planning, asset protection, Medicaid planning, trusts and estates, estate administration, and guardianships. The successful candidate must have a exceptional attention to detail and have excellent verbal and written communication, analytic, organizational, and time management skills. Demonstrated interest in elder law / estate planning through coursework or prior experience is preferred. Our firm’s atmosphere is collegial and friendly, and we put a premium on providing to our clients high-quality, personalized legal services in a professional and fast-paced environment.
Candidates will need to provide a resume and writing sample of at least five (5) pages. The ideal candidate will be motivated to learn and interested in elder law and estate planning issues.
The position, which is full-time, will primarily be based in Rye, New York, but we will expect the successful candidate to work periodically in our office in Yorktown, New York, and to travel to homes and facilities to meet with clients and their families. We will also expect the successful candidate to make periodic Court appearances in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, and Rockland counties, as well as most of the boroughs of New York City.
Responsibilities include:
- Evaluating clients’ existing estate plans, and drafting, proofreading, and finalizing estate planning documents.
- Commencing probate and administration proceedings, Court appearances, advising clients on estate and trust distributions, and drafting relevant documents and agreements related to estate and trust administration.
- Creating plans to achieve Medicaid eligibility and preparing Medicaid applications, which include extensive and ongoing client contact.
- Drafting applications to Court seeking guardianship and handling all facets of a guardianship application.
- Drafting pleadings, memoranda of law, and communications with Court; handling certain Court appearances.
- The ideal candidate will include a cover letter briefly explaining why you are interested in the position. Cover letters may be addressed to, “Hiring Partner”. Applications without a cover letter will likely not be considered.
