PRODUCT ENGINEER

The Product Engineer supports Makino product lines which can include horizontal and vertical machining centers, EDM machines, and automation products, such as the Makino Machining Complex (MMC). Acting as a key resource across departments such as marketing, sales, order execution, field service, and proposal engineering, this role involves developing technical and cost information for the assigned product line(s). Responsibilities include creating documentation, estimates, layouts, and other materials that support the promotion, development, and implementation of these products within Makino.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical support for the assigned Makino products which includes the following responsibilities.

Support the specifications for Makino product line requirements, i.e. coolant / chip conveyor systems.

  • Support the resolution of Makino product and option questions and issues pertaining to the areas of cost estimating and specification definitions.
  • Maintain, develop, and administer the requirements for layout drawings and solid model data for assigned Makino product lines.
  • Provide support for the creation of machine option documentation for assigned Makino product lines, including machine specifications.
  • Create cost estimates for machine option content and automation systems requests for assigned Makino product lines. This includes the following responsibilities.
  • Analysis of request for feasibility.

  • Definition & clarification of request for scope and content of option.
  • Investigate potential design options for cost and functionality.
  • Create cost estimates that include :
  • a breakdown of the costs,

  • a description of option / system functionality,
  • a list of assumptions, constraints, and limitations.
  • Document and archive the cost estimates.
  • Provides follow-up support to requesting organizations.
  • Review requests for impact on all product lines.
  • Updates option cost estimates per design changes of the Makino product lines, as identified within the Makino Inc. engineering organization.
  • Request and review cost estimates from other Makino global engineering organizations, such as MT, MJ, and MA, for supplied machine options and systems products.
  • Identify and support process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Minimal travel may be required to support product promotion, development, or installation.
  • Qualifications needed :

    Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of engineering principles as applied to machine design.
  • Familiarity with metal-cutting machine tools.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines within the organization.
  • Technical Skills :

  • AutoCAD, or similar 2D design software experience preferred or can do attitude to learn.
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power Point etc.).
  • Soft Skills :

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Extreme attention to detail, especially in managing multiple aspects of the quoting process.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to track the status of multiple proposals simultaneously.
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • 2 or 4 year degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience.
