The Structural Fitter Lead is responsible for leading and guiding a team of fitters and welders in the assembly, fabrication, and installation of structural components.
This includes overseeing the shop fabrication, assembly, structural fitting, and welding.
The role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all work activities.
- Working Lead, supervise, and coordinate a team of structural fitters and welders to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to guide the assembly of steel, aluminum, or other structural components.
- Install and align structural components, ensuring proper fit and tolerance.
- Oversee the preparation and inspection of materials and tools required for the job.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Monitor work progress and quality, addressing any issues promptly to avoid delays or rework.
- Conduct regular training and mentoring sessions for junior fitters and other team members.
- Perform inspections to ensure that work complies with company and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with shop supervisor and director of fabrication and assembly to ensure smooth project execution.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during the fitting or installation process.
- Maintain records of work progress, material usage, and any issues encountered during the work process.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in structural fitting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Skills:
o Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
o Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and installation techniques.
o Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.
o Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
o Knowledge of welding, cutting, and other fabrication methods. Pipe fabrication skills preferred - not required.
o Ability to use measuring tools and equipment accurately (e.g., tape measures, levels, micrometers).
o Familiarity with safety procedures and regulations in a construction or industrial setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 pounds).
- Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor or in high-rise locations.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform other physical tasks for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with potential overtime as required by project deadlines.
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and safety goggles is mandatory.
