What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Education Coordinator position at Malaika Early Learning Center?
This position is responsible for the successful implementation of the Early Childhood Education program (child care). This includes Early Head Start/Head Start programming and wrap-around care for early elementary scholars. Job duties will include direct classroom observation (40%), direct teacher feedback (20%) and administrative work (40%). It will also serve as one of the liaisons between Malaika Early Learning Center and Next Door.
Duties
Classroom
- Establish, monitor and support clear program goals in five areas: social and emotional development; language development and literacy; approaches to learning; cognition and general knowledge; and physical well-being and motor development.
- Perform observations on each EHS/HS classroom per month to monitor the health and safety aspects of the classroom.
- Monitor the checkpoints four times a year to ensure children are finalized and at the developmentally appropriate level.
- Monitor monthly health & safety, due date calendar, child educational portfolio for ongoing program success.
- Support teachers in the development of individual curriculum plans (lesson plans, individual child goals).
- Serve as a role-model of on-going professional learning and application in the classroom. Manage child behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, and parent involvement as per Malaika philosophy, Cognia, Early Head Start, Head Start and State regulations.
- Scheduling of childcare classrooms.
- Support administrative staff with enrollment and food service requirements.
Data
- Collect and analyze data regarding on-going program improvement at least three times per year and create a plan to address any issues.
- Provide data, reports, etc. as needed for Cognia, EHS, HS, etc.
- Create monthly TSG (Teaching Strategies Gold) reports for administrators
Training
- Active Supervision Training
- ASQ, children’s portfolio, monitoring and due dates
- Environmental Rating Scales (ITERS/ECERS)
- Conduct the monthly teaching team meetings for IT2&3
- Other trainings as assigned
Other
Work with the infant and toddler readiness coach and Family Advocate to ensure compliance with the EHS/HS partnership
Attend meetings, conferences, trainings, etc. as needed to remain current in industry knowledge.
Model appropriate behavior at all times. This includes developing and maintaining professional relationships and boundaries with children, parents, colleagues, visitors, and other community members.
The work environment is a childcare environment in an active setting with urban youth and families. This requires the ability to respond quickly to changing situations and be able to move around the site as needed.

Requirements
- Education/Knowledge/Experience
- Registry Level 14 – Bachelor’s degree in ECE (preferred)
- Registry Level 12-Associate’s degree in ECE-Administrative Credential (or comparable) required
- Proven knowledge of child development, birth to five
- Demonstrated knowledge of Early Head Start & Head Start standards, Cognia or NAEYC accreditation and licensing standards.
- At least four years experience as a lead teacher in a classroom
- Experience in supporting classroom teachers and administrative staff
- Proficient in general office software
- Ability to collect and analyze data to explain patterns and trends

- Ability to move quickly in order to safely evacuate children from the Center within certain time limits
