Mālamalama Waldorf School is on the east side of the beautiful island of Hawai’i and is accepting applications for a First Grade Teacher for the 2023/2024 school year whose love for children is complimented by their ability to work well with colleagues and parents. We are looking for individuals with enthusiasm and commitment to Waldorf Education to be guiding forces in our welcoming school.
Our School Community
Mālamalama Waldorf School was founded in 1978 by a group of devoted parents and educators seeking a different educational experience for children in the Puna district of the Big Island. MWS is in the residential subdivision of Hawaiian Paradise Park, nestled on a 20-acre parcel in a beautiful, wooded setting. In 1979 MWS was incorporated as an independent, non-profit educational and cultural organization in the State of Hawai’i. The school is a well-respected member of the Big Island community dedicated to Waldorf Education preschool through 8th grade. MWS is accredited by AWSNA, WASC, HAIS, and is a WECAN member.
On the Big Island, we are blessed with a beautiful natural environment, rich cultural opportunities, temperate climate, cultural diversity as well as boasting a most unusual volcanic landscape, ranch lands, and beaches. You can surf in the morning and don winter apparel for a respectful visit to the summit of Mauna Kea in the afternoon.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will be experienced Waldorf educators, have completed Waldorf training, and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. Previous Waldorf teaching experience is preferred. We are seeking individuals with a commitment to excellence in teaching along with excellent communication skills providing parent education and working collegially. Our first grade teacher will have a passion for working with youth while holding a vision of carrying this class through the 8th grade. Other valued traits would be artistic and musical abilities, social dynamic skills, a sturdy presence, and strong organizational skills for conducting a combined grades class.
Compensation and Benefits
Full-time positions are paid a salary, receive Professional Development, and Tuition Remission. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO.
