What are the responsibilities and job description for the Export Supervisor position at Mallory Alexander International Logistics?
The primary purpose of the Export Supervisor is to coordinate and support the Export operations process, maintaining awareness of regulations affecting the international movement of cargo.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Select shipment routes, based on nature of goods shipped, transit times, or security needs.
- Classify goods according to Schedule B.
- Determine efficient and cost-effective methods of moving goods in accordance with rate explorer, tariffs, and FMC, and other regulatory requirements.
- Arrange for special transport of cargo as necessary or requested by customer.
- Provide quotes to both internal and external customers based on shipment characteristics, service level, and port requirements
- Calculate weight, volume, or cost of good to be moved.
- Coordinate container loading, including live load, drop and pick up, and drayage.
- Coordinate movement of shipments to port via rail or truck.
- Arrange bookings with steamship lines via phone, internet, or portals.
- Produce and transmit shipping instructions to steamship lines.
- Obtain or arrange cargo insurance.
- Pay or arrange for payment of freight, and insurance fees, or other charges.
- Communicate with vendors
- Track and trace shipments in route to ports and with steamship lines.
- Communicate and follow up with customers regarding complaints, questions, and other special instructions.
- Prepare customer invoicing and consol billing, ensuring rates applied meet FMC Rules.
- Prepare documentation meeting all documentary requirements for entry into foreign commerce.
- Coordinate destination delivery or storage arrangements with Foreign Agent Network.
- Negotiate with Bank Letter of Credit shipments including documentation.
- Delegate tasks and project work within the team and provide hands-on support to meet fluctuating volume and staffing levels.
- Actively develop and mentor team members on an ongoing basis; build positive morale and offer assistance when needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Logistics preferred, but not required.
- Minimum 2-5 years of Import Air/Ocean Exports experience at a supervisory level.
- Advanced understanding of industry terminology, government regulations, and operational processes related to international shipping both ocean and air transport modes.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and operational systems.
- Excellent organizational, planning and follow-up skills.
- Experience using operating system CargoWise One.
This is a full time, in office (not remote) position.
