What are the responsibilities and job description for the Import Manager position at Mallory Alexander International Logistics?
The Import Manager is responsible for providing high level support and supervision of a team handling all aspects of air and ocean freight import (transport and customs) services. Candidates must have a strong understanding of the governmental compliance requirements of an import transaction and a strong freight forwarding background. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of business growth, department leadership, account management, and enforcing company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Drive business growth and profitability.
- Support daily operation of the department to ensure that customer requirements are met, including but not limited to: RFQ’s, One-off-Quotes, initiating freight pickups, interfacing with 3rd party warehousing, interfacing with airline/ocean carrier and invoicing customers.
- Manage relationships with all customers assigned to the team and assist with customer complaint resolution.
- Understand all departmental operational functions – i.e. billing, tracking, transportation, entry writing, operational systems, etc.
- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated and complicated operational and accounting issues.
- Ensure compliance with customer SOPs, US government agency regulations, and Company Corporate Compliance & Training standards.
- Identify and develop ways to improve current operational processes that meet Company Corporate Compliance, Training standards and SOPs and customer SOP requirements.
- Delegate tasks and project work within the team and provide hands-on support to meet fluctuating volume and staffing levels.
- Evaluate staffing needs, conduct interviews, hire new staff, and provide employee orientations and training for team members.
- Actively develop and mentor team members on an ongoing basis; build positive morale and offer assistance when needed.
- Manage team performance by conducting performance evaluations and disciplinary and corrective action where needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of Import Air/Ocean and Customs brokerage experience at a supervisory level or above.
- Strong commercial focus and tactical application.
- Advanced understanding of industry terminology, government regulations, and operational processes related to international shipping both ocean and air transport modes.
- Experience in Freight Forwarding, NVOCC, and Entry Writing.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and operational systems.
- Excellent organizational, planning and follow-up skills.
- Ability to follow complex instructions.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment and make decisions based on clear understanding of US and Mallory Compliance regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure in a very time-sensitive environment while maintaining positive morale.
- Ability to collaborate as well as applying independent critical thought and analysis to complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications:
- LCB Highly preferred.
- Experience using operating system CargoWise One.
- Tactical experience in managing Air /Ocean consolidation programs.
- Experience working with routed transactional accounts.
- Associate degree or higher.
- Prior supervisory or higher experience in department oversite or A-Z import transactions.

The salary will be commensurate with education and experience: $100,000 - $120,000.
