OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
The Assistant Principal is responsible for partnering with the building principal in developing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is highly conducive to teaching and learning. This includes such responsibilities as leading and coaching a variety of personnel and programs; communicating effectively with all stakeholders; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and advocating for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Instructional Leadership
Oversees / assists the development and implementation of professional learning communities.
Promotes vertical and horizontal alignment and coherence of student learning across grade levels and content areas including curriculum, instruction and assessment (district CFAs, rubrics, grading).
Coaches building staff to ensure high levels of student achievement and growth.
Assists building principal in evaluating the performance and effectiveness of programs.
Facilitates coaching conversations, one-to-one and small group coaching cycles around student learning goals including goal setting, co-planning, and co-teaching.
Collaborates in the development of a system to collect and analyze student data.
Facilitates ongoing analysis of data to identify student learning goals and guide instructional practices.
Supports implementation of state standards and district curriculum and instruction guidelines.
Develops and implements effective professional development.
Supports the vision and mission of the district.
Organizational Leadership
Creates and maintains a safe school environment that promotes student learning.
Assists in the coordinating and scheduling of staff to maximize student learning.
Administrative/Management Leadership
Assists in supervising and evaluating the performance and effectiveness of staff during career summative years.
Supervises extra-curricular activities.
Seeks to enhance the administrative/management practices of the school.
Ensures compliance with district and state policies.
Serves as testing coordinator for the district, including but not limited to state and local required assessments.
Communication/Human Relations Leadership:
Assists with communicating the vision and mission of the school/district to all stakeholders.
Maintains positive relations with parents, parent groups, and other stakeholders.
Assists with communicating regularly with internal and external stakeholders to develop/maintain a positive school/community relationship.
Assists with communicating with stakeholders via multiple mediums.
Other duties may be assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
The Assistant Principal should possess the following educational and professional qualifications:
A master’s degree in educational administration.
Valid Arkansas building administrator license for grades 9-12 or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
