Description

The Director of Vertical Construction is responsible for overseeing all aspects of vertical construction projects, including planning, budgeting, execution, and completion. This leadership role ensures that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget while maintaining quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing multi-story commercial, residential, sports, and institutional construction projects, as well as a strong understanding of industry regulations, schedules, contracts, and best practices. 

JOB LOCATION: Meriden, Kansas; Kansas City, MO; non-remote position 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead and manage all vertical construction projects from pre-construction to project closeout. 

  • Develop and implement project plans, schedules, and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. 

  • Oversee contractor selection, negotiation, and contract execution, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements. 

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure design and construction align with project goals. 

  • Monitor project progress and performance, addressing any issues that arise to keep projects on track. 

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality control measures, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Supervise and mentor project managers, site superintendents, and other construction personnel. 

  • Manage financial aspects of projects, including cost control, invoicing, and reporting. 

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to prevent delays or budget overruns. 

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to foster collaboration and successful project execution. 

Qualifications


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. 

  • 10 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on vertical construction. 

  • Proven leadership experience managing large-scale commercial, residential, or institutional projects. 

  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes, and safety regulations. 

  • Proficiency in project management software such as Procore, Primavera P6, or similar tools. 

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze project costs and budgets. 

  • PMP or other relevant certifications are a plus. 

  • Ability to travel to project locations as required for meetings, site observations, and project support. 

  • Valid drivers license. 

  • Supervise, manage other project managers within the team.
