Position Title: Technician IV - HVACR
Pay Grade: 14 Period of Employment: 12 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Maintenance Foreman and/or Supervisor of Maintenance
General Responsibilities: Maintain HVACR systems and devices in working order throughout the school system; install, repair equipment/systems and devices.
Essential Duties:

- Maintains compliance and stays current with industry standards and codes both local and national.
- Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs heating ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration systems and related equipment such as, custodial, food service, shop equipment, etc. to support division needs.
- Maintains building automation systems and adjusts schedules and set points as needed.
- Responsible for energy management through building control systems.
- Responds, evaluates, monitors and maintains records for air quality concerns in accordance with ASHRAE, local and national requirements.
- Responds to after hours and weekend assignments emergencies daily and on-call.
- Assists with moving jobs to support division needs.
- Responds during inclement weather to restore division operation.
- Maintains assigned vehicle; reports concerns to city garage as well as routinely checks fluid levels and tire air pressure.
- Performs work in a timely manner. Assists in planning to improve team efficiency
- Maintains assigned tools and assumes responsibility for their proper use and care. Ensures the maintenance team has the proper tools and testing instruments.
- Performs preventive maintenance on HVACR equipment, such as inspecting, cleaning, oiling, greasing, calibrating, changing air filters, and drive belts.
- Provides assistance to other departments as assigned.
- Provides training on HVACR to other maintenance employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to understand the operation of a wide variety of computer and electrical controls.
- Skilled in all aspects of HVACR repair.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials and staff, co-workers, and the general public.
- Willingness to attend skills workshops and/or seminars as needed.
- Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints and schematics.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal mechanical codes.
- Ability to make effective decisions.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair natural gas house piping.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Serve as role model.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must possess a CFC license, universal preferred. Must obtain universal within one year of hire.
- HVACR DPOR journeyman mechanical license required, Master HVACR License preferred.
- Must possess a least five (5) years of experience in HVACR service and installation.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and
interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and
personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel
objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of
office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator,
copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching,
standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
