Work Hours: Mid-May through August, 40 hours per week. Camp hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, work hours will vary within that timeframe
Pay Rate: $18.00/hour
Responsible for safety and well-being of children ages 5 and up, in a structured seasonal day camp program. Serves as unit lead by providing instruction and programming for one of the following content areas: physical education, reading, or arts and crafts. Supervises and instructs a group of children including activity set up and clean up. Contributes to the development of positive interaction with participants in day camp programs. Ability to adapt provided activities for campers of varying ages and abilities.
Working Conditions:
Indoor/Outdoor situations, high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Work requires extended periods of time standing and frequent bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, and repetitive lifting/carrying of objects up to 50 lbs. alone and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Job Description
Essential Functions

Reading: Leads the camp reading program, following standards set by the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. Selects age appropriate reading material for children of each age group and creates activities (games, crafts, etc.) associated with chosen reading material. Writes blog posts summarizing weekly reading accomplishments, recording camper progress data, and displaying pictures of activities.
Gymnasium/Physical Education: Leads the camp gymnasium/physical education program. Creates daily activity schedules of age-appropriate outdoor and indoor recreational activities for children of each age group. May work with Reading Program Lead to plan activities associated with reading materials.
Arts & Crafts: Leads the camp arts and crafts program. Creates daily age-appropriate arts and crafts activity schedules for children of each age group. Stays within assigned budget when planning for supplies and materials. May work with Reading Program Lead to plan projects associated with reading materials.
All Program Leads: Plans and implements a weekly schedule for designated program area.
Instructs and supervises children in assigned recreational activities, with assistance from Camp Counselors.
Maintains and inventories all equipment needed for assigned program area. Ensures required program materials and supplies are on hand.
Responsible for setup and cleanup of play areas and facilities. Ensures site is kept clean and organized.
Maintains accurate program records including incident and behavior reports and daily attendance.
Responsible for safety and supervision of participants in day camp programs. Responds quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergency situations.
Serves as an effective group leader and presents a positive role model to participants.
Performs other duties as requested (including weather and other extreme conditions).
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and at least 18 years of age at the time of Summer Camp start date.
Minimum of one year of experience working with youth as a teacher or two summers of experience in a camp setting working with youth.
Community CPR and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Good knowledge of rules and regulations governing the play of a variety of recreation games.
Good knowledge of hazards and safety precautions necessary for protection of the public and employees in recreational areas. Able to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact professionally and effectively with camp staff, children, parents, and other stakeholders, sometimes under stressful or emergency conditions. Able to explain facts, policies, and practices.
Work is performed under moderate supervision.
