Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a county department, networking, professional development, and building lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Manatee County team members.
- Program Dates: The 2024 internship program will begin on May 19th, 2025, and end on August 8th, 2025.
- Internship Hours: Up to 27 hours/week (maximum), Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; may vary by department.
- Pay Range: $14 per hour up to $20 per hour (graduate/ master’s student), based on the number of credit hours earned.
Project (Emergency Management)– Develop Mobile Interactive Evacuation Planning Tools
- Description: Develop a web or mobile app where residents can input their location and receive personalized evacuation routes, shelter locations, and safety tips.
- Deliverables: A working prototype with integrated GIS mapping.
- Skills Gained: GIS, user experience design, and disaster preparedness.
Department Responsibilities:
Public Safety:
- Beach Patrol and Rescue – Tasked with the responsibility of victim rescue, emergency response and ordinance enforcement of the Manatee County Public Beaches and Park Pools.
- Code Enforcement – Enforces County land and property codes in unincorporated Manatee County.
- Emergency Medical Services – Serves as the primary 911 emergency response service to the citizens and visitors of Manatee County.
- Emergency Management – Leads the county in a comprehensive and risk based emergency management program to reduce the loss of life and property and to protect our citizens and visitors.
- Emergency Communications Center (911) – Is the main 911 call taking center for all wireless callers in Manatee County and landline callers outside the city of Bradenton jurisdiction.
Internship Program Responsibilities:
- A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
- Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable)
- Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
- Currently seeking a diploma or degree through an accredited secondary or post-secondary educational program, or within 12 months after graduation.
