Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a county department, networking, professional development, and building lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Manatee County team members.
- Program Dates: The 2024 internship program will begin on May 19th, 2025, and end on August 8th, 2025.
- Internship Hours: Up to 27 hours/week (maximum), Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; may vary by department.
- Pay Range: $14 per hour up to $20 per hour (graduate/ master’s student), based on the number of credit hours earned.
Short Description: The Transit Division Intern will assist in creating a new Public Transit Community Partners Program. This program will reach out to non-profits and public organizations in Manatee County in order to solicit advertising and outreach materials that can run on the infotainment screens on the bus. A community partner agreement will be created detailing the responsibilities of both the non-profit and MCAT. The agreement might include stipulations about length of time for outreach materials, outreach events scheduling, etc. Example agencies might include Centerstone, Step Up Suncoast, Turning Points, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Meals On Wheels Plus and the United Way. The intern will also work with the various agencies to join agencies at their events so MCAT to reach out to their clientele and solicit new, successful transit riders. Program development may also include design and development of a web page to solicit partnership applications.
Department Responsibilities:
- Training on the digital content management system that runs the infotainment screens on all the buses and at the stations.
- Supervision including some joint visits to various community agencies.
- Attendance at any community outreach events
- Training on web page design and development
- Additional training will include an introduction to the National Transit Database, federal transit grant administration and various Transit Planning team responsibilities such as Title VI, Transit Development Planning, transit service planning, transit scheduling, urban transportation planning principals and other Transit Planning team responsibilities.
Internship Program Responsibilities:
- A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
- Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.
- High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable)
- Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
- Currently seeking a diploma or degree through an accredited secondary or post-secondary educational program, or within 12 months after graduation.
