Position Summary:
The Area Manager is responsible for decision making and direction of the overall strategic, organizational, safety, cultural and financial performance of the people in the designated Ready Mix Area. This role must demonstrate leadership in developing team members and in Manatt’s purpose, mission, values and vision. Using our values and vision, these must be instilled in the team in order to provide the highest quality product in a safe, efficient manner from an excellent team.
The Area Manager will manage the Ready Mix Area’s people and facilities, setting direction by networking and planning for the future, ensuring we are currently operating in and moving forward in a responsible manner, and appropriate resources are available and allocated across the Area. The Area Manager is bottom line, P&L accountable. The Area Manager also leads and represents Manatt’s Ready Mix to customers and contractors, leading and approving quotes, pricing and projects. This includes cultivating relationships with our customer base and local communities.
Manatt’s Ready Mix Area Manager is a high-level leadership and accountability position that has direct access to and reports directly to the Vice President, Ready Mix.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Additional or other duties may be assigned.
FAMILY
- Serves as a standard bearer for Manatt’s mission to safely do everything we do better than anyone else and purpose of building legacies through standards of excellence.
- Promotes, lives and exemplifies Manatt’s values: Family, Excellence and Human Potential.
- Supports, directs, mentors, trains and motivates a team who is responsible for day-to-day ready mix sales and production for designated Area.
- Checks on and engages all Family members as to their wellbeing, engagement, and enablement.
- Visits all Area plants on a regular basis.
- Supports and implements company safety standards and policies ensuring everyone goes home in the same condition they came to work, including coordination with the company safety team and ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.
- Networks, consults and assists other Manatt’s family members, including operations and quality control personnel as well as individuals from other Manatt’s divisions and Areas to achieve common goals in Manatt’s vision and purpose.
- Communicates clearly and ensures adequate and appropriate communication between Ready Mix team members.
- Understands material sourcing for all Area plants, communicates and has appropriate relationships with key suppliers.
- Networks with all Manatt’s support divisions (HR, Risk, Leadership, Environmental, Finance, IT, Trucking, Shops, Equipment and Parts).
- Actively involved in community as well as industry associations including IRMCA.
- Works with sales staff, Plant Managers and CDPs to ensure appropriate customer experience across Area.
- Builds relationships with key contractors, developers, and other potential customers.
EXCELLENCE
- Ensures he/she is using his/her time efficiently and effectively.
- Ensures he/she is using his/her supervisor’s and management’s time appropriately.
- Ensures he/she is using his/her peers’ time appropriately.
- Supports Area Plant Managers to accomplish daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals and tasks.
- Oversees, leads, mentors, and supports Plant Managers in their endeavors, provide clear feedback and direction to ensure high level performance and support for all plants.
- Ensures appropriate plants are assigned to appropriate projects, with sufficient resources to ensure the desired Manatt’s customer experience.
- Drives accountability, change and improvement in processes.
- Determines and enforce discipline and rewards as appropriate.
- Be a driver of safety in Ready Mix in particular and Manatt’s in general.
- Engages in direct, regular contact and interaction with Vice President, Ready Mix division on overall and Area specific direction and strategy.
- Teamwork with other Area Mangers and Operations to ensure appropriate uniform practices across all Areas.
- Gives direction and feedback to Ready Mix operations staff, especially assigned Area Operations staff to coordinate and accomplish Area Manager’s vision as well as daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals and tasks.
- Accountability for all Area quotes and pricing to customers.
- Positively represents and promotes Manatt’s in all matters, at jobsites and elsewhere, to customers, potential customers, and potential team members.

- Participates in planning and presenting fall and winter/spring meetings.
- Participates in the creation and maintaining of standards and training for appropriate onboarding of CDPs and Plant Managers.
