Minimum Qualifications and Requirements of a High School Principal:
- Master’s Degree in educational administration and/or equivalent as required for state certification
- Minimum three (3) years of classroom experience and a minimum of three (3) full years completed as an administrator prior to the start of the school year after the hire date.
- Certified educators who have taught students regardless of the setting are considered to have classroom teaching experience
- New Hampshire Educator Certification of Principal (003)
- All minimum qualifications and requirements shall be met at the time of position posting
Specific Core Function of the Principal at MST:
To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.
Responsibilities of the Principal at MST:

Curriculum Development
- Assist in the development of the curriculum and be responsible for its implementation and evaluation.
- Facility Maintenance and Management
- Responsible for monitoring the proper care of the building and grounds.
- Exercise general supervision of the building and facilities, and will cooperate with the Director of Public Building Services in the discharge of this responsibility.

Public Relations
- Responsible for communicating and interpreting school policies and practices to parents, students and the public.
- Responsible for keeping District offices informed of all pertinent information regarding all phases of the school operation.
- Budget Administration
- Responsible for submitting budget requests for each school year to the appropriate Central Office Administrators. These requests will reflect cooperative planning on the part of the principal, staff and appropriate Central Office Administrators.
- Responsible for monitoring and submitting budget requests. These requests will reflect cooperative planning and include the principal’s approval of all requisitions before they are sent to the appropriate District Office.
- Health Care Administration
- The principal, with assistance of the school nurse, shall maintain and enforce immunization controls based on state laws and district policies.
- Staff Management

- Responsible for leadership in the evaluation of the staff in cooperation with the appropriate Central Office Administrators, which will involve periodic classroom visitations and personal conferences with staff and reporting all evaluation documentation to appropriate members of the Evaluation team.
- Responsible for the appropriate assignment, promotion and non-renewal recommendations to the appropriate supervisory personnel.

- Extracurricular Activity Administration
- Responsible for the care and accounting of activity funds.
- Annual reports indicating receipts and expenditures shall be made to the appropriate Assistant Superintendent.
- Responsible for the calendar of events of the school and shall attend all meetings related to activities of the school except in cases where an assistant principal or teacher sponsor has been designated.
- Emergency Administration
- Responsible for effectively managing all emergency situations, i.e., fires, bomb scares.
- Student Assignment Administration
- In cooperation with staff, the principal shall be responsible for the promotion, retention, and placement of students.
- Student Personnel Management
- Responsible for all matters pertaining to student personnel management in accordance with the Code of Conduct, School Board policies, school policies, and federal and state laws.
- Communication Skills
- Responsible for the effective written and oral communications with students, staff, parents, supervisory personnel and other constituents.
- School Climate
- Responsible for the promotion and maintenance of a school climate which is conducive to effective teaching and learning.
- Personal Professional Development
- The principal shall assume responsibility for personal and professional growth and development through current educational techniques, including reading, coursework and professional activities.
- Staff Development
- In cooperation with Central Office Administrators, shall be responsible for organizing, planning and auditing the staff development program.
- Other
- The principal shall perform any other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his designees to include the Assistant Superintendent and appropriate Central Office Administrators in accordance with local School Board policies, state statutes and regulations of the State Board of Education.
- Shall cooperate with all appropriate Central Office Administrators and project and program directors and other administrative personnel.
