Position Summary:
The Youth Basketball Instructor at the Mandel JCC is responsible for coaching and mentoring young athletes in a positive, engaging, and skill-building environment. The instructor will design and lead basketball drills, teach fundamental skills, and foster a love for the game while emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct age-appropriate basketball training sessions for youth participants.
- Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, and game strategy.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all participants.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development on and off the court.
- Monitor and assess players' progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Set up and maintain equipment before and after sessions.
- Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and program directors about schedules, progress, and any concerns.
- Uphold Mandel JCC’s values and commitment to community engagement and youth development.
The primary responsibilities of this role will be to support the director in various aspects of youth basketball programming. This includes assisting with preschool basketball training sessions, helping organize and supervise youth basketball league games, and refereeing games as needed.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience coaching or playing basketball at a competitive level.
- Passion for working with children and fostering a fun, educational atmosphere.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate young athletes of all skill levels.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in youth sports programs, camps, or recreational leagues.
- Knowledge of different coaching techniques and child development principles.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Part-time, flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Compensation based on experience and qualifications.
