Job Title: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

Location: New York, NY

Position Overview: The School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, particularly in working with young children with diverse needs. This position involves developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that support the developmental and educational goals of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instruction and Curriculum Development:

    • Design and deliver individualized instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
    • Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, setting realistic and measurable goals.
    • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to address the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of students.
    • Incorporate play-based and sensory activities that support early childhood development.
  2. Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

    • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor students’ progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
    • Use formal and informal assessment tools to evaluate students’ development and learning.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, communicating regularly with parents and other team members.
  3. Classroom Management:

    • Create a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
    • Implement behavior management strategies that promote positive social interactions and self-regulation.
    • Ensure the classroom is safe, inclusive, and conducive to learning for all students.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with other teachers, therapists, and support staff to coordinate services and ensure comprehensive support for students.
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on student progress and strategies for support at home.
    • Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  5. Professional Development and Compliance:

    • Stay current with best practices and research in early childhood special education.
    • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • New York State certification in Special Education or Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Experience working with young children with disabilities in a classroom setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development and early intervention strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position, following the school calendar year.
  • Hours may vary depending on school needs, including occasional evening meetings or events.
