Workers Compensation Paralegal
Manier & Herod is recruiting for a paralegal to work on workers compensation matters. Experience in workers compensation or similar files is preferred. Conducting legal research, synthesizing and analyzing relevant facts from lengthy documents, and drafting legal correspondence is a key requirement. Ability to communicate in writing and orally with clients, witnesses, and other counsel is critical.
This position's ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, exceptional problem-solving skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic workplace.
Permanent full-time role, with competitive compensation and benefits. Hybrid work options available after three-month training period. Currently require at least two days in-office per week.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments.
- Draft pleadings, motions and appellate documents and file them with the court.
- Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics etc.)
- Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes.
- Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices.
- Aid attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests.
- Gather relevant information from a variety of source.
- Provide assistance with case settlements.
- Conduct factual investigation using insurers’ claim files, public records searches, web searches, and phone calls.
- Conduct legal research on LexisNexis and other online sources.
- Conduct public records searches through various online resources.
- Draft letters that outline and explain legal claims to clients and third parties.
- Draft basic legal pleadings and briefs (including drafting legal analysis for attorney review and edits).
- Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices.
- Perform administrative duties (accessing and uploading shared files to internal server, prepare and mail letters by various methods, manage logistics, etc.)
- Performing other legal and operational tasks as required.
