Title: Counselor Trainee/Technician I/II Range: 12/13/14

POSITION SUMMARY
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop a positive relationship and interact with residents in a helpful and therapeutic manner. Promote individual, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional development.
2. Work as a team and consult with counselors routinely and as needed. Follow the direction of the counselor to develop a team aspect to meet the needs of children in care.
3. Supervise children at all times. Follow established schedule. Support children in scheduled activities. Prepare necessary and assure availability of materials for activities.
4. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, predictable and therapeutic environment for children. Assist in meal preparation following posted menu.
5. Assist Youth counselors in planning and presenting educational, recreational and daily living activities for children.
6. Display an ability to make appropriate decisions, deal effectively with frustration and conflict, and to act as a positive role model with children and staff.
7. Support children’s behavior through positive guidance; display an ability to set clear and consistent limits.
8. Assist in completion of documentation daily. Note behavior, mood, activities, and progress towards established goals. Assist counselors in awarding appropriate points.
9. 9. Work assigned day, evening, overnight or weekend shift that may include holidays.
10.10. Participate in an on call rotation with other staff.
11.11. Performs other routine duties when necessary to maintain a safe and receptive environment.
