Position Details
TITLE : Speech and Language Pathologist
CLASSIFICATION : Professional Staff
REPORTS : Assistant Superintendent of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS :
An earned Master’s degree in speech and language pathology
State of Michigan certification and the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), is authorized to provide speech and language services to students with disabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Observing and recording communication behaviors within and out of the classroom.
Determining need for a formal referral for speech / language services.
Administration of individual speech / language assessments for students ages 0-26.
Scoring and interpreting assessment results related to eligibility for speech / language services as part of a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team.
Summarizing assessment information by giving a profile of strengths and weaknesses of individual students.
Interviewing students, parents, and teachers.
Preparing written communication profiles.
Developing Individualized Educational Plan.
Providing in-service to parents, educators, and / or others on issues related to speech / language development and services.
Consulting with other professionals on communications impairments in both special and general education.
Managing the Individual Educational Planning Committee process for speech and language impaired students and participating in the for students who receive speech and language as an ancillary service.
Implementing individual education plans.
Evaluating students’ annual progress.
Perform other duties assigned by Director.
