JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, teaches classes in the field of Technology Education to students in grades 9 through 12, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Associate Principal
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches skills and appropriate learning activities in one or more courses in Technology Education to students, utilizing course objectives of the District.
- Perform teaching duties in a professional manner.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively instruct and assess students as per the standards outlined on the District’s supervision and evaluation form and/or other alternative supervision and evaluation methods.
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and working time.
- Demonstrates equipment and processes, using standard and teacher prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment.
- Instructs in the use and care of computer equipment, wood working equipment, CNC machines, other department equipment.
- Maintains control over storage and use of school-owned materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse.
- Makes requests for repairs to equipment as required.
- Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom with many potential hazards.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
- Maintains the District’s standards relative to the confidentiality of information about students and school related concerns.
- Attends to the safety and well-being of all students, including but not limited to, the use of universal precautions as per blood borne pathogens training.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Wisconsin license authorizing service in grade levels or areas assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree, including all courses required to meet credential.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior teaching experience and working experience in residential construction, woodworking and metal fabrication.
PERSONAL QUALITIES:
Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health. Recommendations from student teaching supervisors and other professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher that meet District’s standards for hiring.
