What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher - 2025-2026 School Year position at Manor Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities, instruction, and supervision by implementing the lesson plans as directed by the absent teacher, principal, or other responsible staff.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Any one of the following:
- High School Diploma
- GED
- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's Degree
- Doctoral Degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Experience managing groups of students and providing instruction, or related work experience
Position Requirements:
Instructional Strategies
- Implement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time and motivates students to learn and participate
- Instruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics and courses of instruction
- Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the lesson plans
- Address the various learning styles of students accordingly
- Model correct use of spoken and written English language
- Demonstrate professional practices in teaching
- Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curriculum for students as needed or noted in lesson plans
- For long-term assignments, you may be required to develop lesson plans; create, administer, and grade tests/assignments; participate in parent-teacher conferences; and attend school related functions. Please note: activities may occur outside of normal school hours
Classroom Management and Organization
- Be a positive role model for students; support mission of campus and school district
- Submit attendance records
- Implement a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the lesson plans, Student Code of Conduct, and student handbook
- Supervise students at all times
- Maintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school, state, and all applicable laws and regulations
- Ensure adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and school property
- May supervise students in out-of-class settings (e.g., assemblies, cafeteria, school grounds)
- Maintain a clean and orderly classroom and follow the classroom and school procedures as directed by the school
Communication
- Leave notes or complete the approved substitute teacher report form at the end of the teaching day
- Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards students, parents, staff, and administrators
- Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the campus principal

Subsitute Professional Growth
- Participate in substitute training and activities to improve job-related skills
- Comply with all state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers
- Complete required trainings by due date
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
