As a Senior Staff Accountant/Controller, you will ensure the integrity of the financial data and work in tandem with others using your accounting knowledge and skills to help drive the company’s success. You will be relied upon to offer an array of financial matters that impact our business. As we grow the Senior Staff Accountant/Controller will work hand in hand with the Chief Financial Officer in the accounting operations of the company, including but not limited to subsidiaries and related entities of Manthei Wood Products.

Work location is an in-office setting in Petoskey, MI.
 
Position Summary:
The Senior Staff Accountant/Controller is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls.  This role ensures accurate financial statements, manages general ledger activities, and assist with budgeting and forecasting.  Key responsibilities include reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance, and supporting audits.  The Senior Staff Accountant/Controller also plays a critical role in optimizing accounting processes, monitoring cash flow, and providingfinancial insights to support strategic decision-making.  
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure accounts payable are recorded and paid in a timely manner, utilizing all reasonable discounts available
  • Record accounts receivable transactions and verify prompt collections
  • Calculate, record and invoice intercompany rebills accurately and timely
  • Record general ledger transactions
  • Review general ledger entries for accuracy
  • Complete account reconciliations, analyze data, and identify corrective actions
  • Assist in the month-end, as well as year-end, financial closing process
  • Verify information and monitor procedures to ensure compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Assist with accounting software implementation projects
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and cash reports
  • Assure all tax and finance related reports required by regulatory agencies are prepared and filed in a timely manner
  • Manage cash flow and issues cash reports as needed
  • Assist with review or audit preparation, as requested
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, accounting, budgeting, inventories, and/or payroll
  • Sets up and maintains classification of accounts and organizes accounting procedures and accounting software systems
  • Maintains production / inventory ERP system by establishing policies and procedures, explaining processes, and recommending actions to management
  • Prepares and reviews production / inventory reports with management
  • Maintains general ledgers, sales and accounts receivables records, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, operational expenses, insurance records, and all other associated financial data
  • Performs internal audits involving review of administrative and accounting controls
  • Other duties and projects as determined by overall company business needs
Required Technical /Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, mobile applications, and other technology and computer skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP solutions
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance , or related field or minimum of 3-5 years in related field; combination of both
