Job Description

ORGANIZATION

The Manufacturing Skills Academy (MSA) is an employer-led project of the Central Oklahoma Manufacturers Association (COMA). The MSA was funded in 2023 through the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST) and is led in its startup by Principal Investigator, Sharon Harrison (of Harrison Consulting Group). Located in Oklahoma City, the MSA will offer young people between 18-24 a paid learning opportunity to prepare them for careers in the critical occupations in manufacturing. The MSA collaborates with partners in non-profit, education, and workforce sectors.

The MSA is guided by five core principles:

· Build strong and positive relationships between program participants, staff, instructors, and mentors.

· Create genuine work-based learning opportunities through job shadows, site visits, and manufacturing of real products.

· Create a culture of shared responsibility between program participants, staff and instructors, mentors, and other COMA members of ongoing skill development.

· Foster the development and improvement of employability skills (interpersonal and life skills) that transcend a particular technology or job category.

· Foster the development of the necessary manufacturing technical skills to allow participants to move into employment and/or further training.

POSITION

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Technical Skills Program Coordinator will have as their primary responsibility the implementation of the MSA’s custom Technical Skills (TS) program including, but not limited to, teaching modules and securing and overseeing outside instructors. They will work with other staff and external consultants to ensure that the TS program operates in coordination with other components of the MSA. They will also be responsible for overseeing the tracking of student progress through the TS program and working with the PI (or their designee) evaluating and revising, as needed, the TS program.

Organizational Leadership and Management

· Ensure ongoing excellence of the TS program through highly skilled pedagogy and best practices in educating young adults.

· Demonstrate high-level technical skills and a willingness to learn and adopt new skills and approaches.

· Contribute to effective systems to track program participant progress.

· Oversee the hiring and supervision of TS program instructors and guest speakers.

Board Relations

· As directed by the PI, provide program updates to the Board of Directors and participate in Board events.

Operations and Finance

· Manage the TS program budget under the direction of the PI or CFO.

Program Operations

· Teach TS lessons and field trips and supervise other instructors and guest speakers.

· Maintain a learning space atmosphere that is welcoming, asset-based, and in alignment with the MSA Principles.

· Develop and maintain a system for tracking participants progress through TS program.

· Develop and maintain a system for providing regular, useable feedback to program participants on their progress through the TS.

· Ensure that all materials and supplies for the TS program are available and in good condition.

· Participate in all staff meetings and collaborate with other staff to ensure the components of the MSA operate in alignment with each other.

Fundraising and Public Relations

· As directed by the PI, participate in fundraising activities including contributing to grant writing and submission.

· As directed by the PI represent and publicize the MSA to agencies, organizations, and the general public including its opportunities and successes.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Technical Skills Program Coordinator will be thoroughly committed to Manufacturing Skills Academy’s mission, vision, and focus. Candidates should have experience working with adolescents and young adults.

Additional demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

· A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering, business, and/ortechnical and business certifications relevant to manufacturing education.

· At least 5 years of experience working with older adolescents and/or young adults in an employment, education or community setting.

· Demonstrated expertise in lesson plan development and delivery.

· Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.

· Experience supervising and/or working with guest speakers and instructors.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, persuasive, and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

· Demonstrated competency in MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additionally, experience in manufacturing, career development, and/or workforce development and education is desirable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
