We are seeking a dynamic General Contractor Project Management Intern to join our team and work closely with members of the project team (project manager, assistant project manager, and project coordinator) to learn about the construction process, from an administrative perspective, and daily tasks required to advance a construction project from start to finish.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be pursuing a bachelor’s/master’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Have a desire to gain experience in the commercial construction industry, overseeing all aspects of ground-up projects in healthcare, financial, and light industrial sectors.
  • Have the ability to manage more than 2 projects at one time and have an ambitious approach to balancing workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Have a strong desire to learn knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented approach
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various job sites

Responsibilities

  • Learn about Safety and Quality Control programs and how to coordinate actions to address problems.
  • Assist the project Superintendent with field related tasks (Home Depot errands, etc.)
  • Clean the job site regularly to ensure maximum safety and efficiency
  • Walk the job site with the Superintendent to determine punch list items
  • Assist Superintendent in working with project management on filling out required documents

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in Construction Management, Engineering or related education program; no experience required; prior internships or work experience helpful but not required.
  • Able to travel as needed to participate in training, seminars, task team meetings, etc.
  • Demonstrate expanding knowledge of construction details about miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, radiation protection, etc.
  • Possess good self-organizational and management skills and strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting and exceeding customer requirements and expectations.

Physical Demands

  • This position involves work at a construction site where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors
  • Working hours may be extended to meet project deadlines
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a company iPad, phone, and other business machines
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
  • Includes crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction

Physical Demands:

  • The individual typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear. Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing.
  • Frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Please note that climbing stairs is a physical requirement. Some offices contain an elevator, but one must be able to use stairs for fire drills and emergencies

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Individuals may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
