POSITION SUMMARY
MPC has an opportunity for an Accounting Supervisor! This role is located at the Company’s Mandan Refinery and is responsible for supervision and tasks related to accounting, budgeting and forecasting activities for the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Facility. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position will be expected to assist accountants and business partners in troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day issues. This position interacts with refinery personnel, including the Refinery Leadership Team (RLT) as well as other refineries, Findlay Refining and Findlay/SAT accounting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide oversight, direction and development for direct-reports to ensure work assignments for the assigned areas of responsibilities are efficiently and effectively performed.
- Direct the development of the manufacturing expense budget for the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel facility and associated Logistics assets. The budget cycle includes the annual budget, monthly forecast updates and monthly reporting/analysis of actual vs. budgeted expenditures.
- Coordinate the monthly closeout of financial accounting systems.
- Direct the completion of month end financial accruals, review Journal Entries and approve account reconcilements.
- Ensure SOX controls are executed in a timely and effective manner.
- Coordinate the data collection for the Solomon Benchmarking Survey. Prepare analysis on the results.
- Interact with personnel at the other refineries and Findlay/SAT offices to improve consistency in refining accounting practices and the resolution of common issues between the plants.
- Assist in implementing new accounting policies and coordinate communication to other impacted refinery departments.
- Work on special projects as needed.
- Represent the Controller in engagement with the RLT when the Controller is not present.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Six (6) years of Accounting or related experience required.
- Advanced/Expert experience in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Lead/Supervisory experience preferred
- Oil and gas industry experience preferred
