The Marathon Anacortes Refinery is seeking a full-time Reliability Manager in the Maintenance Department.
This position supervises the Reliability Engineers (Fixed Equipment, Rotating Equipment, Electrical, Instrumentation/Analyzer, and Corrosion/Metallurgy) who are considered subject matter experts in each of their respective disciplines.
The Reliability Department is responsible for defining the scope of the preventive and predictive maintenance program and tracking its effectiveness. This department is also responsible for assisting in reliability investigations, defining the required training programs, and providing recommendations for improving equipment reliability. Furthermore, the team is responsible for documenting the required information in accordance with the Mechanical Integrity Program.
The Reliability Manager provides the vision and facilitates continuous improvement efforts in support of long-term reliability improvements. They work closely with all departments to achieve common goals focusing on safety, compliance, and reliable operation of the refinery while maximizing the profitability of the site. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Director.

Responsibilities
- Directly supervises Fixed Equipment, Rotating Equipment, Electrical, Instrument/Analyzer, and Corrosion/Metallurgy Engineers.
- Provides guidance for technical and professional development as well as provides leadership excellence through coaching/mentoring, succession planning, performance management, recognition, and employee engagement processes.
- Ensures the Reliability department provides technical expertise and field support of needed maintenance repairs.
- Champions the Mechanical Integrity program, Major Equipment Deficiency (MED) process, and the Inspection, Testing, Preventative Maintenance (IPTM) deferral process.
- Coordinate the implementation and document the preventive and predictive maintenance requirements by equipment type in accordance with the Mechanical Integrity program.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of Reliability driven initiatives. Maintains compliance with local and corporate specifications (SP’s), Refining Standard Practices (RSP’s), and Refining Reference Documents (RRD’s) and Mechanical Integrity compliance with regulations affecting our area of responsibility.
- Accountable for the bad actor program, which systematically identifies bad actor equipment, facilitates root cause failure analyses, and provides recommendations and, where appropriate, ensures submittal of Project Request Forms (PRFs) for improvement.
- Monitors and communicates to the Refinery Leadership Team and Area Teams the site’s threat lists to mechanical availability and prioritizes initiatives based on the “Total Cost of Unreliability” list.
- Ensures the site maintains long-term reliability focus, continuous improvement, and creates/monitors applicable Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
- Ensures that appropriate turnaround work scope is identified for Fixed, Electrical, Instrumentation/analyzer, and Rotating Equipment.
- Responsible for asset data integrity management for SAP and GE-APM (formerly Meridium).
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of refinery or petrochemical Maintenance/Engineering experience. Prior experience in Reliability is preferred; or High School Diploma or GED required with 15 years of relevant maintenance experience in process industry (e.g., refining, midstream, petrochemical, or other heavy industrial)
- Ability to work outside in an industrial setting requiring walking, climbing of ladders and wearing of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License upon hire.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC card upon hire.
- Valid drivers license required
- Strong initiative, leadership, collaboration, and strategic / critical thinking skills are essential.
- Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software. SAP experience is desired.
- Ability to successfully communicate complex system information across various audiences, from hourly personnel to Refinery management.
- Desire to learn new concepts and push the business in new direction to achieve best in class performance.
- Experience in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of refinery equipment including rotating, instrumentation or electrical equipment.
