What youll be doing :
This is a ten-week standard length of assignment performing a variety of activities to assist with the day-to day operations of the museum. You will learn new skills relevant to your academic and employment pursuits.
What you will be responsible for :
You will be performing a variety of activities to assist the Education staff to engage and educate our diverse audiences. Duties involve tasks that can be readily learned by on-the-job training, and which require some judgment in their execution. Your responsibilities may include identifying community partners, community engagement, facilitating offsite programs, benchmarking, data tracking, reporting, creating surveys, supporting educational program development, curriculum development, facilitation, delivery, and evaluation within the context of a natural history museum and cultural park. Duties also include tabling educational outreach events. You will gain valuable experience and may work independently on routine recurring assignments.
Distinguishing Features : You will learn new skills relevant to their academic and employment pursuits. The intern works under the general direction of the Education Curator who will appoint an appropriate staff member to train and supervise the intern. This person will serve as mentor for the intern and as a liaison with the interns academic institution if applicable. An Education Intern may also receive direction from staff or volunteers they are assisting. Training consists of observation, discussion, demonstration, and review of work.
What skills & experience you will bring to us :
Education and Experience : Must be a driven, diligent individual with a deep interest in and demonstrated knowledge of natural history, paleontology, anthropology, science, education, and / or related fields. The candidate must have some experience working with children from Pre-K to 12th grade in informal or formal educational settings.
