ESY Social Skills Teacher – Summer 2025
**THIS IS A SUMMER POSITION. EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY**
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Extended School Year (ESY) is a Special Education program for students with disabilities whose IEP team has determined that in order to minimize substantial regression and reduce substantial recoupment time, a student is required to attend ESY. These services will be based upon the individual needs of the students per their IEP goals/objectives.
REPORTS TO: Position reports to the ESY Director and the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
PROGRAM SCHEDULE:
The instructional hours for students are 4 hours per day, 4 days per week, for 5 weeks from July 7 to August 7, 2025.
The Social Skills Teacher is expected to:
Work all 20 days of the program.
Independently plan lessons to prepare for rigorous, structured reading instruction.
Complete Progress Reports in the last week of the program.
Consult with related service providers to address student’s needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES: An ESY (Extended School Year) Social Skills Teacher focuses on providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities, particularly in social-emotional and behavioral areas, during the summer months, with a focus on preventing regression and maintaining skills.
implement individualized instruction plans (IEPs) that address students' social-emotional and behavioral needs.
Create and deliver engaging lessons and activities that promote social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behavior.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
Assess student progress and make adjustments to instruction as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely student records.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and any concerns.
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and social interaction.
Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) to address challenging behaviors.
Manage classroom crises and de-escalate challenging situations.
Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, and other activities.
Participate in professional development activities.
Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
Teach and model appropriate social behaviors, such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution.
Help students develop empathy, self-awareness, and self-regulation skills.
Provide opportunities for students to practice social skills in a variety of settings.
Maintain timely student attendance and progress records.
Care for program materials and resources.
Engage as a partner in planning and problem solving.
Assess students to provide information via progress reports at the end of the ESY services.
Performs other related duties as requested by the ESY Site Coordinator or Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree.
Massachusetts Educator Licensure in Moderate/Severe Disabilities
Safety Care certified
Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

TERMS:
Hourly rate of $40.
Payroll will be processed on a biweekly basis after receipt of completed timesheets in accordance with MPS summer payroll schedule.
