Under general direction for the company's Safety Director, this position develops, administers, and implements project wide occupational safety programs, or severs as coordination for occupational safety programs within one or more projects. Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
Responsibilities-
Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:
- Periodically act as a team lead on special training programs, evaluations or investigations
- Provide direction and/or guidance to company personnel
- Provide training to employees on occupation health and safety issues
Daily Activities & Duties:
- Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs
- Provide guidance to field personnel with safety briefings
- Provide advice, and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions
- Develop and enforce safety standards to conform to industry standards and federal, state and local regulations
- Develop and implement safety programs by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions
- Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet client, local, state and federal OSHA requirements
- Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments
- Develop and enforce safety standards to conform to industry standards and Federal, State and Local regulations
- Develop and implement safety programs by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions
- Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups. Including evaluation and modification of programs to meet client, local, state, and federal OSHA requirements
- Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments
- Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs
- Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazard in the workplace
- Lead and/or participate on teams within safety, technical, management, and other team members
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinance governing Occupational Safety
- Knowledge of designated safety policies and procedures
- Knowledge of specialized technical knowledge related to servicing area
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in investigative analysis
- Skill in oral presentations and training
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in safety or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of large project experience in a construction safety environment.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience on a large project in a construction safety environment and completion of the OSHA 500 Training Course.
- A CHST designation with a minimum of four years in construction safety environment.
- Hands on safety oversight experience in a construction environment.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent preferred
- OSHA 10 or 30
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent walking and climbing (stairs, ladders, terrain)
- Frequent bending, twisting and standing
- Exposure to working outdoors in all-weather conditions
- The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes: hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment.
