Overview
Marcilliat & Mills, PLLC, a multi-office, state-wide criminal defense firm, has an immediate opening for a Spanish-speaking Legal Assistant in our downtown Raleigh office. This position will begin on a Monday-Thursday (32 hours weekly) schedule with a competitive salary and full benefits package.
Job Summary
The individual in this role will primarily provide assistance to the senior attorney in our Raleigh office in defending criminal litigation matters. He or she must be a team player with a can-do attitude who is also willing to jump in to remotely assist our teams in Raleigh and Wilmington on an as needed basis.

Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required; paralegal certificate preferred but not required. Willing to train the right candidate!
- At least 1 year of prior experience managing criminal or civil cases in a law firm, District Attorney’s Office, or similar professional office setting.
- Spanish fluency is required for this position, and willingness to assist with interpreting for our Spanish speaking clients and family members.
- Strong computer and word processing skills required with proficiency in MS Office products and case management software (e.g. LEAP, CLIO, Needles).
- Candidates must be able to interact and communicate effectively and courteously with lawyers, clients, and staff.
- A proven ability to multi-task, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines is critical.
Responsibilities
- Answers phone and takes a leading role on intake process for Spanish speaking clients
- Under attorney direction, drafts and prepares correspondence and other written documents as required including pleadings, motions, letters, and other documents as necessary.
- Monitors, files, and escalates issues requiring attorney involvement. Performs timely and discreet handling of highly sensitive issues and materials related to case.
- Maintains multiple attorney calendars for court dates, trial dates, and filing deadlines.
- Opens, closes, and maintains electronic and physical copies of client files, keeping them organized and current.
- Regularly communicate with clients and their families by email, phone, and in-person.

Working Conditions
This is an on-site position in our office in downtown Raleigh. Parking is provided by the employer. Hours are 8-5 Monday through Thursday. Candidates must have reliable transportation.
