What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Specialist position at Marian House?

Job Description: Marian House is currently hiring for a part time Peer Recovery Support Specialist to provide substance abuse services and program coordination in our Women & Children’s Recovery Housing Program. Our clients are formerly homeless women with histories of chronic substance abuse, chronic mental illness, trauma, and/or long-term incarceration. Marian House utilizes a team approach with the overall goal of helping residents achieve the maximum possible personal stability through mental health and recovery services.

 

Duties:

 

  • Advise family members & friends in how best to understand residents’ struggles & provide support during the recovery process.
  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery using one-on-one and group sessions.
  • Support clients in identifying and creating goals, developing recovery plans, with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving those goals.
  • Assist clients in obtaining decent & affordable housing of her choice in the most integrated, independent, and least intrusive & restrictive environment.
  • Model effective coping techniques & self-help strategies.
  • Assist in obtaining services that suits the individual recovery needs.
  • Inform clients about community and natural supports and how to use them in the recovery process.
  • Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
  • Serve as a recovery agent, by providing and advocating for any effective recovery-based services.
  • Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma though self-advocacy.
  • Work with the client and other treatment team staff to develop a treatment/recovery plan based on each liens identified goals.
  • Support client’s vocational choices and assist them in choosing a job that matches their strengths.
  • Assist client’s in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps she needs to take to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Must have current registration Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist
  • Preferred weekend and nightshift availability
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Mature development of self as a professional with demonstrated knowledge of good work practices and of community resources
