This is a short-term, benefits-eligible, full-time one-year-only teaching opportunity for academic year 25/26 beginning August 2025. Mesa Community College seeks a dynamic and passionate faculty member to teach general biology for majors at our Red Mountain campus with the flexibility and expertise to also teach anatomy & physiology. We are looking for an innovative and creative science educator dedicated to empowering a diverse and often underprepared community college student population through engaging and inclusive teaching practices for in-person and online instruction. In addition to teaching, developing and refining teaching materials, utilizing current teaching methodologies, incorporating research experiences for students into the curriculum and providing service to the department, campus and community are also required. The Red Mountain campus is situated within 48ha of Sonoran Desert that harbors endangered and protected species and has been the recipient of an international award for conservation. Participation in these broader campus conservation and sustainability initiatives is a desired aspect of this position. Campus has an allied healthcare focus and most students taking biology classes are going into healthcare related fields and with some biology majors. Given the small size of the campus and faculty, candidates must be adaptable, capable of working both independently and collaboratively, and ready to contribute to a range of interdisciplinary and institutional initiatives.
Essential Functions
The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:
A Master's degree or higher in biology or a biology related discipline
OR
A Master's degree or higher in a medical or health related discipline (i.e. MD, PA, DVM, DPM, DO, DC, DDS, ND)
OR
Master’s degree or higher in biology education, science education or secondary education with 18 semester graduate credits in biology and/or applied biology courses
Desired Qualifications
Position will be located at the Red Mountain Campus at 7110 E McKellips Rd, Mesa, AZ 85207
May be required to teach at multiple sites and may be assigned to day, evening or weekend classes as needed.
Exposure to biology laboratory chemicals, specimens (including preserved specimens)
May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation
May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

Essential Functions
- Instructs a diverse population of students in classroom, lab and online settings; uses learner-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and current teaching methodologies appropriate to the modality.
- Develops and refines instructional materials and curriculum; develops written syllabi and course materials; assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records using MCC’s LMS; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning
- Maintains academic support hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship and personal development; provides leadership for the Life Science Department; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects; participates in outreach activities to promote student recruitment
- Participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, professional growth, workshops, and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college and Red Mountain campus; demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, staff, and the community; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students.

Desired Qualifications
- MS or PhD degree within the biological sciences. Broadly trained biologist with experience in cell and molecular biology or organismal biology, and anatomy and physiology.
- College teaching experience in face-to-face lecture and lab setting teaching students going into healthcare related fields and biology majors.
- Online college teaching experience preferably with expertise independently developing lecture and lab online courses, or with experience teaching from a ready-made online course shell, for students going into healthcare related fields and biology majors.
- Experience conducting research within the biological sciences in a lab or field setting involving undergraduate college students.
- Developed face-to-face and online curriculum, lecture and lab instructional materials using best practices in college education aimed at a diverse and underprepared student population.
- Demonstrated innovation and creativity related to science education
- Demonstrated commitment to service to the department and college.
