Join our team of appraisers at the Maricopa County Office of Assessor! In this position, you will conduct appraisal analysis to review, adjust, and support property values resulting in fair and equitable property valuation in Maricopa County. We will count on you to apply your knowledge and understanding of appraisal principles and practices to research and analyze property values and confirm that the information on which the value is based is accurate. Proud to Offer Growth and stability since 1871 Perform work with a greater purpose: assist 1.8 million parcel owners in ensuring fair & and equitable property valuations One Team culture An exciting place to work with the bustling development of various projects, such as single-family residences, apartments, offices, and resorts Mileage reimbursement Free membership to State and International assessing organizations after six months of employment; initial paid training and continuing education are provided Opportunities for growth and development within Maricopa County Exceptional work-life balance: flexible and alternative work schedule options Low-cost, high-value healthcare for you and your qualifying dependents Enrollment in Arizona State Retirement System Paid vacation, sick, and parental (birth/adoption) leaves Extensive wellness program with $60 monthly medical premium discounts Employee discounts for goods and services Learn more at http://maricopa.gov/5284/Why-Work-Here We Require Bachelor’s Degree in real estate, property appraisal, civil engineering, urban planning, accounting, finance or a related field OR A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis We Also Value Experience in an appraisal or property environment such as real estate, construction, property inspection, titling, mortgage, or similar environments Experience performing discovery, measurement verification or other technical functions related to property appraisal or assessment Postgraduate courses in statistics, accounting, or economics Advanced appraisal training and continuing education Appraisal experience, preferably in an Ad Valorem environment Job Contributions Produce fair and equitable values by confirming asset data and analyzing existing asset data for trends Review, research, and analyze variance and other valuation reports to identify discrepancies and make necessary adjustments and corrections Alert management on unusual or high-impact property issues and valuation problems and make recommendations for resolution Work with Field Appraisers and Senior Field Appraisers to coordinate data integrity, review the information provided by Field and Senior Field Appraisers, and work with them to request additional property information, follow-through, and training support Resolve discrepancies and claims by researching and analyzing statutory requirements for appeals and noticing processes, meeting with property owners regarding appeals, and participating in field visits as needed Research and prepare appeal packets and represent the Assessor’s Office at State Board of Equalization (SBOE) Hearings Follow noticing processes and ensure any outcomes are accurately recorded Educate the public and cultivate public trust by meeting with property owners or their representatives to listen, inform, and guide Provide prompt, responsive, and accurate service when dealing with the public Working Conditions Arizona driver’s license and personal vehicle upon hire Primarily office setting with limited fieldwork resulting in exposure to extreme heat, cold and dangerous flora and fauna Must attain a DOR Level I and DOR Level II certification within 18 months of hire Must successfully attend and complete the following advanced-level coursework within 24 months of hire: IAAO 112 Advanced Income, IAAO Workshop 171 Standards of Professional Practices and Ethics, or IAAO Standards of Practice and Professional Ethics Supplement (online) Either IAAO 151 or an Appraisal Foundation- approved two-day USPAP course IAAO Course 300 Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal Selection Procedure Only the most qualified candidates will be considered Consideration will only be given to candidates who submit online applications Candidates will be contacted primarily through email and their Workday online application profile Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive Maricopa County is an equal opportunity employer.
