The Maricopa County Human Services Department coordinates and administers essential programs and services to vulnerable populations to enhance quality of life and strengthen communities. Our work advances Head Start programs, provides career development services, supports independent living arrangements for seniors and adults with disabilities, fosters repair programs for homeowners, assists residents with funeral arrangements, and ensures that residents have options for assistance with rent and utility payments or those experiencing homelessness.

We Require

Ten (10) years of professional experience in the planning and administration of large, complex social service delivery programs, with at least five (5) years of management experience

A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field

We Also Value

Extensive executive experience managing large government human service programs, including staff supervision

Experience with extensive and complex federal regulation and policy implementation

Postgraduate education in Social Work, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field

Job Contributions

Directs the establishment, implementation, and continuous improvement of Countywide human services policies, procedures, and programs

Directs through subordinate managers the day-to-day operations of the department

Plans, implements and reviews departmental short- and long-term goals

Advises County and department leadership on human services issues, policies, and practices

Assists County and department leadership in resolving high-level and sensitive issues

Oversees the review and analysis of state and federal laws, court cases, and legislation that impact human services

Ensures the County’s compliance with state and federal laws related to human services issues

Represents the county in interactions with the community, local, state, and federal agencies, legislative bodies, professional organizations, other county departments, and the public

Conducts and oversees related studies and prepares reports and presentations for the Board of Supervisors and County management

Oversees the preparation and management of the department budget

Identifies opportunities for technological advancement to enhance services

Determines future needs and effective strategies for addressing these needs

Participates on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees

Ensures superior customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility

Working Conditions

Work is routinely performed in an office environment, which may require long periods of sitting, reading, and typing. Requires travel to program sites throughout Maricopa County. The position requires travel to and from various county, client, and contractor locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and / or private vehicles used on County business.
