POSITION TITLE: School Counselor
COMPENSATION: Salary based on Board Approved Certified Compensation Plan
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
Position Summary
The School Counselor will be responsible for providing services related to the
delivery of mental health care to assigned clients at the designated school location and
will provide consultation services to the school staff to support the overall mental health
goals of the school.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Must possess a strong knowledge of the common diagnoses and treatments for school-aged
children and possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school
environment.
Clearances
(A prospective employee must have the following clearances before servicing students.)
Required - Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Valid Arizona Driver's License
Additional Information
Travel is required to the schools
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to deal effectively with students, staff and outside agencies.

- Provides direct mental health services, individual/group counseling services, and crisis
- Maintains regular contact with the parent/guardian of each student (if appropriate)
- Furnishes required reports to CPS, legal system and other involved agencies, as
- Participate on the District Crisis Team
- Classroom presentations
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings
- Provides consultation for school staff regarding mental health issues of clients (as
- Conducts group counseling as necessary
- Participates in the collection of mental health information and student outcomes data to
- Provides complete and timely documentation to support services rendered
- Other duties as assigned
Must possess a strong knowledge of the common diagnoses and treatments for school-aged
children and possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school
environment.
- Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA and special education
- Knowledge of brief therapy theories and interventions based off the strengths perspective
- Required - A Master’s degree from an accredited University or College in the field of
- Required - ADE Certified School Counselor or School Social Worker.
- Preferred - Licensed in the State of Arizona to provide mental health services (LPC, LSW,
