QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

 

Georgia Educational Leadership P-12 Certificate or degree required.

 

Certification in administration/supervision at the 6th year level required.

 

Experience:

 

Minimum of five years successful experience in administration, leadership and/or supervision required.

 

Special education classroom experience required.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The overall purpose of this position is to assist the Superintendent with the operation of the school district by providing leadership in the administration, planning, development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of special services for the Marietta City School System.

  

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Leadership

  1. Lead and provide oversight for the delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of assigned programs and services.
  2. Actively participate as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and district leadership team.
  3. Regularly visit schools, meets with staff and seeks input from various stakeholder’s as part of the district’s ongoing, systematic problem solving process
  4. Administer and support the research, development, introduction, revision, and implementation of policies, administrative bulletins, and procedures for programs, services, and areas of responsibility to ensure district objectives are met.
  5. Interact effectively with all stakeholders including staff, students, parents, community, media, civic and professional organizations.
  6. Avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts.
  7. Seeks innovative practices, grant opportunities and community connections to foster continuous improvement of programs and services.

 

Evaluation

  1. Evaluate effectiveness, maintain fiscal responsibility and ensure compliance with policies, rules and regulations for assigned programs and services.
    1. Special education and related services (pre-K through graduation)
    2. Multi-tiered system of supports
    3. Student Support Team (SST) procedures
    4. School psychological services
    5. System-wide Crisis Intervention Team
    6. Section 504
    7. School Nurse Program
    8. Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
  2. Attract, retain, professionally develop and evaluate staff in assigned areas of responsibilities.

 

Management and Organization

  1. Plan, organize tasks, manage time effectively and implements activities/action plans designed to accomplish purpose and goals.
  2. Monitor, interpret, implement, and communicate current laws, rules, and policies pertaining to programs, services, and areas of responsibility.
  3. Manage data reporting for all areas of responsibility.
  4. Assist the Superintendent and other administrators to gather, compile, and analyze data for system budget development.
  5. Administer budget related to assigned programs, services, effective resource allocation and areas of responsibility.
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of the district’s strategic action plan and supports the development and implementation of short-term action plans.
  7. Manage and evaluate individual, group, and staff/departmental interactions for efficiency and productivity.

NON-PROGRAM DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other duties as assigned. Actively participates in appropriate interagency activities.

 

 

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

 

  • Possession of excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional practices and resources related to remediation, intervention and special education.
  • Knowledge of sound instructional practices and technology in various areas of early intervention, core instruction and prevention as well as special education.
  • Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations that govern the education of students with disabilities under IDEA or Section 504 as well as those suspected to have a disability
  • Knowledge of the College and Career Readiness Performance Indicator, Georgia’s accountability system, as well as state required assessments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications and web-based IEP programs.
  • Knowledge of record reporting for FTE and Student Record.
  • Ability to effectively lead staff.
  • Ability to interact successfully with school personnel, parents and students to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to plan comprehensively, organize and prioritize assigned tasks, and assume responsibility for the results of duties delegated to staff.
  • Ability to initiate tasks independently, analyze critical data, and monitor progress toward departmental, system, state, and federal goals.

 

Physical Demands

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, stand and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Frequent driving is performed while meeting the demands of this job. Occasionally, yet essential to this position, the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and other workers. The position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. The position requires direct responsibility for the work output of other people and their safety and well-being. The position requires meeting multiple demands from several people.

 

    

Work Environment:

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.  The employee may face many interruptions and shifting priorities day to day.
