This position is located at MCCS Miramar. Candidates selected for this position will serve as a Library Technician.
Major Duties
The library supports the educational, technical, professional, and recreational needs of active-duty military, military family and retirees, as well as DoD civilians by serving as a resource and community center that offers traditional content collection, digital content through databases and electronic materials, and a communal creative makerspace. The Makerspace Technician serves as a subject matter expert in the equipment, software and hardware, electronics, supplies and equipment available within the Makerspace.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under the direction of the Supervisory Librarian, prioritize digital service goals and leverage social media to promote and expand Makerspace operations. Partner with the Marketing department to promote awareness of Makerspace capabilities and technology. Provide presentations on the capabilities of Makerspace technology and equipment, and conduct tours for commands, visiting officials, and clientele. Consult with other installations to incorporate new initiatives into the Makerspace such as introductory classes to SolidWorks, lithophane 3D printing, and advanced 3D printing design.
Create Makerspace programs and workshops that employ laser etching, coding, robotics, computer building, 3D printing and modeling, and the digital tools and software used to create virtual galleries, graphic arts, animation, and video games. Develop and conduct training for clientele and staff on the technology available within the Makerspace.
Maintain equipment, facilitate training, conduct programming efforts, recommend new equipment to be procured, and collect and report metrics related to the Makerspace. Assist in setting up the Makerspace to accommodate frequent training and presentation events, and in returning the space to its use as a workshop. Execute policies and procedures necessary to ensure resources and materials are safeguarded, available for use, and in safe and working condition. Recommend changes to procedures, policies, and processes, and resources to maximize productivity within the Makerspace and improve operations.
Participate in staff meetings and on task forces. Communicate the status of projects, programs, and events. Organize and prioritize work independently. Periodically inventory equipment and supplies, recommending replenishment of damaged, missing or depleted technology and supplies.
Assess use of the Makerspace by analyzing data and clientele feedback to determine trends, adequacies, and gaps. Create and compile data used in annual and monthly reports. Provide input and feedback on acquisitions that can expand Makerspace capabilities consistent with internal operating directives and requirements. Routinely consult with Supervising Librarian and Makerspace Coordinator to ensure operations meet safety standards, establish age limits, operating hours, and protocol for equipment use.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assist customers and communicate positively in a friendly manner. Take action to solve problems quickly and alert the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adhere to safety regulations and standards. Use required safety equipment, and ensure clientele and staff follow safety regulations and work procedures. Promptly report workplace hazards and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications
Must have 2 years of experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic and well-established library procedures related to routine and repetitive aspects of major library functions, or 3 years of practical experience in a related field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to support Makerspace operations and troubleshoot and resolve often complex issues that arise when clientele works with and is learning the Makerspace equipment and software.
Must be proficient with the software and equipment used in the Makerspace to include 3D printers and laser etching, and computer aided design, 3D animation design, vector design, and 3D printing slicing software. Experience and competency with the following software is highly desirable: TinkerCAD, AutoCAD, Blender, Inkscape, Cura, PrusaSlicer, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and the use of associated peripheral equipment is required.
Must be adaptable and eager to embrace new technology and demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and changing priorities. Initiative to create workshops and programs utilizing the Makerspace resources, and the ability to independently prepare written communications, training materials, and presentations is required.
Must possess strong customer service skills to respond to inquiries and communicate with all levels of the military and civilian community, and develop and maintain professional, courteous, and cooperative relationships that contribute to effective operations.
