MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
JOB SUMMARY
Directs the daily activities of the facilities department. Oversee building systems and manages employees in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, automobiles, and heavy equipment for all MHI locations. Maintains pier services to all contracts at MHI and down river. Oversees contractors for facilities renovation projects entailing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Evaluate, Facilities Department, daily operations to include safety, performance, costs, quality, and schedule.
- Supervises Facilities Department personnel directly or indirectly to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Assists with scheduling day-to-day activities and mitigation of scheduling conflicts.
- Communicates with Production Manager and other Superintendents to coordinate schedules with other departments supported by Facilities personnel and equipment.
- Ensures that machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production to eliminate wasteful practices within the department.
- Responsible for continuous improvement of processes to promote efficient and economical utilization of personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Ensures adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
- Maintains good employee relations within the Facilities Department and takes corrective action as required.
- Recommends the hiring and release of personnel as required to maintain the production schedule.
