Job Description Summary

The Sterile Processing Educator and Trainer oversees all aspects of sterile processing operations within the Medical Network. This critical role ensures the effective cleaning, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments while upholding strict compliance with regulatory standards and infection control protocols.

The role involves managing day-to-day operations, building and maintaining vendor relationships for surgical instrument procurement, and creating comprehensive training programs for sterile processing staff. Additionally, responsibilities include leading quality control efforts, ensuring adherence to compliance requirements, and promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

$33.25 - $39.50 - $44.71

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Sterile Processing Management:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the sterile processing areas across the Network, ensuring compliance with infection control standards, regulatory guidelines, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and availability of medical instruments, ensuring proper sterilization techniques are consistently followed.
  • Ensure proper tracking and inventory of all sterilized equipment, tools, and supplies.

Vendor Management & Instrumentation Procurement

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external vendors to manage the procurement of high-quality surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Coordinate the ordering, delivery, and inventory management of instruments and sterilization supplies, ensuring that SPD needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate vendor performance regularly, negotiating pricing and contract terms to ensure cost-efficiency without compromising on quality or safety standards.

Staff Training & Development

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of sterile processing staff training programs, ensuring all team members are well-versed in sterile techniques, equipment handling, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide guidance to SPD staff on best practices in sterilization procedures and safety protocols.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement by facilitating regular in-service training sessions and ensuring team members are up-to-date on the latest industry standards and innovations.

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Oversee routine quality control checks on sterilization processes and equipment, ensuring all procedures are in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Work closely with the infection control team to monitor for any potential risks and take corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensure adherence to accreditation and certification standards related to sterilization practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Proven experience in sterile processing and instrument management
  • Strong knowledge of infection control procedures, sterilization methods, and healthcare regulations.
  • Experience in vendor management and contract negotiations for medical instrumentation procurement.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a focus on team development and training.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management, Nursing, or a related field (preferred).

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certification in Sterile Processing (CRCST, CIS, or similar) is required.
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

Experience

  • A minimum of three years related experience required.
  • Re-processing/ procedural experience required.
  • Proven experience in sterile processing and instrument management
  • Strong knowledge of infection control procedures, sterilization methods, and healthcare regulations.
  • Experience in vendor management and contract negotiations for medical instrumentation procurement.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a focus on team development and training.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position. Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document."
